Vegan “Meatball” Pizza

Vegan “Meatball” Pizza

You haven’t put vegan meatballs on a pizza?! Well, here’s a taste of just how good this combo is – together!

  • Heat your oven to maximum (really turn up the heat). Those wood-fired pizza ovens are even hotter, so don’t be scared. Make sure your oven tray is in the centre of your oven heating up.

  • Saute 1 or 2 chopped onions with chopped peppers and sliced mushrooms  in some oil until soft and caramelised. Add some chopped sundried tomatoes and herbs of choice (optional). Remove from the pan and season to taste.

  • Return that pan to medium heat and pan fry the vegan meatballs, and fry until golden, shifting as they colour.

  • Thinly spread or brush the pizza base with some tomato pizza sauce, leaving a bit of space around the edges.

  • Evenly sprinkle some fresh and finely chopped herbs of your choice (oregano/thyme/rosemary would be great here but optional), and, most importantly, cheese! We always recommend a heavy hand when adding the grated mozzarella cheese. Scatter over the vegan meatballs, crumbling them up a bit if you’d like, along with the sauteed veggies.

  • Place in the oven for 5-10 minutes, but make sure you keep an eye on it so that it's cooked perfectly – cheese lightly melted and bubbling and the edges are golden.

  • Serve hot, sprinkled with some fresh rocket.

For those that like a hot kick, serve with some fresh chopped chili or your favourite chili sauce.
